A bunch of weird phrases fit the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ theme song
Giant talking turtles with a mastery of ninjutsu and a penchant for gloopy New York pizza should have been enough to make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon stand out. But the animated series went the extra mile to ensure it was memorable—it employed an incredibly catchy and unique theme song. Written by Dennis Challen Brown and Chuck Lorre (yes, the creator of Two And AHalf Men and The Big Bang Theory), the propulsive ditty has a peculiar cadence, breaking up various sentences while introducing audiences to the turtle that “does machines” and the one that ”is a party dude.” For those that may need a refresher:
Over at his webcomic xkcd, writer/cartoonist/physicist Randall Munroe set out on a quest to find other phrases that would match that particular meter. Combing through Wikipedia, Munroe found titles of articles with particular syllabic matches that can easily be plugged in to the chorus of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song. His results are collected below (and on his site), with some highlights including “former Artic Monkey members,” “six degrees of Kevin Bacon,” and “places named for Adolf Hitler.”
