A Kansas couple thinks they know the truth in A Killer Story trailer

HBO true crime series have recently had a pretty good success rate of creating their own followups. After The Yogurt Shop Murders aired, new DNA evidence led to a breakthrough in the case, which led to another episode in the series. The initial run of The Way Down concluded with the untimely death of Gwen Shamblin, which then prompted more people to speak out in the follow-up episodes; likewise, the initial run of The Vow encouraged more people to share their stories with the network. Perhaps that’s what Eileen and Keen Umbehr want out of the new series focused on their amateur sleuthing.

The Kansas couple is the subject of the new series A Killer Story, which investigates the 2002 conviction of Dana Chandler who received two life sentences for killing her ex-husband and his girlfriend. The Umbehrs, however, see holes in this conviction, and are convinced that prosecutors ignored evidence in the case that would have pointed to other subjects. But has the couple fallen victim to the same tunnel vision that they say landed Chandler in prison? Obviously, we don’t know yet, but the trailer, shared below certainly makes it seem possible.

A Killer Story is a three part documentary, which premieres on Thursday, September 10 on HBO. New episodes will follow weekly.
