ABC orders a female cop drama called Broad Squad

After moving a few file cabinets around and finding a dusty manila envelope simply labeled “chick shows,” ABC has given the green light to a female-led police procedural called Broad Squad. The show is set in the pre-politically-correct ’70s—a time when men were men and women fought crime in hot pants—and will follow the fictionalized adventures of Boston’s first graduating class of female patrol officers. The group was dubbed “The Broad Squad” in the local press, which is actually a better explanation for the show’s name than “a rejected list of all-female action squads we found in Quentin Tarantino’s drafts folder.”

Broad Squad will be a co-production of The Mysteries Of Laura and Chasing Life’s Kapital Entertainment and Fake Robot, the production company behind ABC’s upcoming Astronaut Wives’ Club. The climactic scene of the first episode will take place, presumably, during a key party on a corrupt senator’s pleasure boat.
