Alabama Shakes take reunion on the road

Alabama Shakes are getting back on the road. The Grammy-winning band has been on hiatus since 2018, but in recent weeks the group has teased a comeback on social media. Last month, they announced their participation in the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival, teasing they were “[working] on some exciting stuff.” Now, the band has announced a full list of 2025 tour dates with the promise of new music to come.

“Last year, Heath [Fogg], Zac [Cockrell], and I started chatting about how much fun it would be to make music together and tour again as Alabama Shakes,” Brittany Howard said in a statement (via Brooklyn Vegan). “This band and these songs have been such a source of joy for all of us. It is crazy that it has been 10 years since we released Sound and Color and eight years since we played a show. But, we didn’t want this to entirely be a look back. We wanted it to be as much about the future as the past. So we have a bunch of new music that will be released soon. We just can’t wait to experience that ‘feeling’ when we start playing those first few notes of ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’ or ‘Gimme All Your Love.'”

Alabama Shakes’ last studio album was 2015’s Sound & Color. In the years since, Fogg and Howard have both pursued solo projects; Howard won the Grammy for Best Rock Song in 2019 for her solo track “Stay High.” The group parted ways with their drummer Steve Johnson after he faced legal trouble concerning domestic violence and child abuse charges (the latter charges were eventually dropped). They’ll be joined on tour by Bahamas, Shannon & The Clams, El Michels Affair, The Budos Band, Sam Evian, Lee Fields, Greyhounds, Y La Bamba, Caleb Elliott, and Alanna Royale. Ticket information can be found on the band’s website. You can check out the full list of tour dates below.
