Alicia Florrick answers to no one in The Good Wife season seven promo

The Good Wife has released the first sneak peek of the show’s upcoming seventh season, and things sure are changing! Eli Gold drinks smoothies now, Peter Florrick is running for president, and Alicia Florrick doesn’t have to answer to anyone. Everyone is changing like a butterfly. And Alicia is dancing with the devil by potentially partnering up with Michael J. Fox’s Louis Canning. How many times does he have to cross her before she learns not to trust him? What does Alicia Florrick’s wide open future behold? What fun green-screen tricks will season seven deliver?

The promo prominently features new cast member Margo Martindale as campaign operative Ruth Eastman. Other newcomers Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Peter Gallagher do not appear. But much more perplexing is the fact that Christine Baranski and Matt Czuchry don’t say a single word in the promo, suggesting that season seven might suffer from the same sidelining side effects that muddled season six. In the season premiere, Alicia will meet Lucca Quinn (played by Cush Jumbo), a new attorney who poses a threat to Alicia by trying to snag some of her clients. Jane Curtin, Christopher McDonald, Mo Rocca, and the chameleonic Bridget Regan are all set to also appear in the premiere.

The Good Wife returns to CBS on Sunday, October 4 at 9 p.m.
