Amanda Seyfried joins Ramy Youssef's new A24 movie

You can see Amanda Seyfried everywhere these days. Between promoting her upcoming film The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd at TIFF, going viral for her red-carpet interviews, seeing a resurgence in The Dropout‘s popularity for Nathan Fielder-related reasons, and voicing Cinderella in an animated retelling of the classic fairy tale for Netflix, she’s been busy. And according to Deadline, Seyfried has just lined up her next role. She’ll reportedly star in a new comedy called Martha & Muhammad, which will mark Ramy Youssef’s feature directorial debut. A24 will finance the movie, which will star Seyfried, Youssef, and Sharon Stone. So, who’s playing the titular Martha—Seyfried or Stone? Who knows. No plot or character details have been revealed, but Youssef is also writing the script. Josh Safdie and Christopher Storer, the creator of The Bear, will serve as producers.

Youssef previously directed episodes of his Hulu comedy series Ramy, which premiered in 2019. He also directed a season two episode of FX’s The Bear. It makes sense that Storer will be part of the Martha & Muhammad producing team, since he previously served as an executive producer and director on Ramy and executive produced three of Youssef’s comedy specials. Beyond his stand-up specials, Youssef has appeared in Poor Things, guest-starred on season one of The Studio, starred in Succession creator Jesse Armstrong’s satirical tech-bro movie Mountainhead, and reprised his role as Zohran Mamdani for the season 52 premiere of Saturday Night Live.
