Amazing Spider-Man 2 has a post-credits sequence you can only watch on your phone
This Friday, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will offer an annoying twist to the already annoying post-credits teaser phenomenon: You can only watch it if you “Shazam” the end credits. Clearly Sony is confused, because the name of Shaquille O’Neal’s film isn’t “Shazam.” It’s Kazaam.
Nevertheless, Collider reports that there is an “app” that you must download on your “smartphone” called “Shazam”—not Kazaam—that will listen to the credits music and tell you what song it is using science, rather than genies. Except—because everyone already knows what the end credits song for The Amazing-Spiderman 2 is, because it is public information and literally will be listed in the end credits—Shazam will instead cue up a teaser for Sony’s upcoming film about the Marvel supervillain group, The Sinister Six. But which super-villains? Only the teaser knows.
For those who don’t want to wait around or use “apps,” the intrepid folks at Coming Soon went ahead and Shazamed the song—which is Alicia Keys’ “It’s On Again,” featuring Kendrick Lamar—and got the trailer, because that’s how science works! On their site, they offer predictions of who the Sinister Six will be.
Profoundly, this means the folks at Sony are in fact leading us into a pre-credits world. Because you—yes, you!—could also Shazam the song right now and see this teaser trailer. You don’t even have to watch the credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2! You can just, like, leave! Who cares who made it? You can even leave early if you want. Beat the rush. Get to your car before the crowds. Now that is a plan.
