Noomi Rapace, the Swedish actress who starred in the 2009 Swedish-language adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is the biggest name of the four. Since the Millennium series she’s appeared in Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, Bright, and several other movies and TV shows on both sides of the Atlantic. Joining her is French comedian turned actor Ramzy Bedia (Of Money And Blood, Haunted Minds), British actor Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible, Ian Curtis in 24 Hour Party People), and Italy’s Corrado Invernizzi (Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, Ford V Ferrari). It’s an appropriately international bunch, fitting a series that has been set in several countries across the last 2500 years of human history.
All four will be playing recurring roles in the show, which is being overseen by showrunners Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming). Already announced as starring in the show are Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, and Tanzyn Crawford. Of course where and when an Assassin’s Creed game takes place is usually more important than whatever character happens to be the lead, and that’s something Netflix hasn’t revealed yet. Every game is set in a detailed recreation of a historical civilization, starring an important figure in a centuries-spanning clandestine war between the Templars, who want to dominate humanity, and the Assassins, who believe in freedom. Netflix does promise that the show will “follow its characters across pivotal historical events,” so maybe the Assassin’s Creed TV show will jump around as much as the games do between installments. The streamer clearly hopes the second time is the charm for a live-action Assassin’s Creed adaptation; despite the game selling over 230 million units over the last 20 years, Justin Kurzel’s 2016 film with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard was an infamous flop.
