The Backrooms get some characters in full trailer

The Backrooms are still pretty mysterious, but the latest trailer for the starts to clear things up ever so slightly. We learn how these rooms appear in the back of a furniture store and seem to manifest out of thin air before going on near-endlessly. Chiwetel Ejiofor is Clark, who is determined to prove to this therapist (played by Renate Reinsve) that the Backrooms do in fact exist. At some point, she’ll be in the Backrooms with him, along with a collection of frightening, otherworldly creatures.

There’s some pretty twisted lore about the Backrooms, at least pre-A24, but it is known that the famous photo comes from a furniture store. Various internet detectives have determined that the Backrooms are empty showrooms from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, though the rooms depicted in the photos don’t exist anymore. Whether the upcoming film from director Kane Parsons takes place in Wisconsin remains to be seen.

Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell star in the film with Ejiofor and Reinsve. The screenplay was written by Will Soodik and the Backrooms counts James Wan, Shawn Levy, and Osgood Perkins among its producers. Backrooms opens nationwide on May 29.
