Don’t get it twisted: even sans founding member Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys would “absolutely” still be touring without Stamos, he told Vulture last year. “This is like Beethoven or the Beatles. It’s the power of those songs. I’ll tell you, they wouldn’t be touring without Mike [Love]. But he’s not ready to stop anytime soon. He’s one of the great front men. I don’t care what anybody says,” Stamos declared. “I remember telling myself when I first started performing with them, ‘Just relax, it can’t go on forever.’ And now it’s been 40 years.”
Yes, the marriage between The Beach Boys and John Stamos is “Forever.” (Get it—that’s the song he covered for Full House.) This summer, Stamos will join the group at Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, MA (June 10); The Town Hall in New York, NY (June 13); PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ (June 14); Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY (July 5); Constellation Brands Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) in Canandaigua, NY (July 6); Pechanga Resort Casino – Pechanga Summit in Temecula, CA (August 8); The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego, CA (August 9); and Long Beach Terrace Theater in Long Beach, CA (August 10). The band recently announced it will extend “The Sounds Of Summer” tour into the autumn with a three-date engagement at Las Vegas’ The Venetian Resort in October.
Stamos told Vulture he rarely gets nervous performing with the legendary band anymore, except during a 2023 set at the See.Hear.Now festival in New Jersey. Intimidated to be on a lineup with contemporary greats like Weezer and The Foo Fighters and worried that no one would show up for The Beach Boys’ afternoon set, Stamos said, “I kept my head down, walked onstage, and looked up and it was 60,000 people. People were going insane for the band. We couldn’t even hear ourselves. I saw all these musicians come around to watch the show when I was playing drums. I thought, Don’t look, John. Just get through it. But I cheat and look behind me, and there’s Dave Grohl videotaping me. The Weezer guys are all there. We finished, and they hugged us and said, ‘That’s fucking great, man.'”
He reminisced, “I was really proud of the band that day. I wrote in my high-school yearbook, ‘Without music life would be a mistake.’ And my dad said, ‘That’s a dumbass thing.’ Well, it’s not so dumb now, is it Dad?”
