Bethesda Is Teasing Something Fallout-Related

Once again, Bethesda is up to something. As a studio, Bethesda enjoys teasing their fans and is not afraid of announcing off-the-wall titles such as last year’s Prey and the recently announced Rage 2. In a Tuesday tweet, Bethesda now seems to be telling their fans to stand by as an announcement of something is presumably imminent. But what is that something?

Judging by the tweet doubling down on Fallout-themed iconography and the “please stand by” phrase that graces many a Fallout game’s loading screen, we can safely surmise that the announcement is Fallout-related. With Fallout’s most recent entry being Fallout 4 in 2015, it’s hard to imagine that a new mainline title is already done—especially since, judging by previous Bethesda release cycles, a new entry in the Elder Scrolls series should be next. Thus, this tease could be for a remaster of an older Fallout entry or the announcement of Fallout 4 being ported to the Nintendo Switch. Both possibilities seem feasible enough and aren’t that surprising, given how Bethesda has doubled down on their support of the Switch, and a remaster of an older Fallout game would assuredly make many fans happy.

The longshot possibility is that of a remake or a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas—an outlier in the franchise, as it was a spin-off title developed by Obsidian that featured some intriguing gameplay and system differences from its Bethesda-made brethren. For one, decisions really, like really, really mattered in Fallout: New Vegas—they could alter an entire play-through at the drop of a hat. The critical and player receptions of Fallout: New Vegas have come around in recent years, as more and more people have come to really love it. A sequel or a remake are both unlikely prospects, but they are very exciting ones, nevertheless.
