Prepare to go one step beyond, Windy City. Beyond Chicago is coming to the Music Box Theatre in early April, and with it, the Beyond Fest offshoot is bringing a host of new and old movies for its inaugural outing in Chi-town. Teaming up with the Music Box, Beyond Chicago has a stacked line-up of 30 features ready to hit the theater’s screens. The schedule includes cinematic pairings programmed by Bob Odenkirk, who screens his latest, Normal, with The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three, and the RZA, whose brought the Shaw Brothers classic, The Kid With The Golden Arm, to accompany his new film, One Spoon Of Chocolate. On opening night, horror fans can enjoy Curry Barker’s debut feature, Obsession. But closing night might be for the true sickos, when Daniel Goldhaber’s reinvention of Faces Of Death has its world premiere on “stomach-churning” 35mm, the way the Dark Lord intended.
Other highlights coming to Beyond Chicago include Jorma Tacone’s Over Your Dead Body and the world premiere of the 4K restoration of the Wachowskis’ singular anime-inspired vision, Speed Racer. And who could forget about the Butthole Surfers documentary, The Hole Truth And Nothing Butt, or the must-see double feature of Exorcist II: The Heretic and the documentary it inspired, Boorman And The Devil.
See the whole line-up below. Tickets go on sale for Music Box members tomorrow, March 5, and the general public on March 6. For more information, visit beyondfest.com and musicboxtheater.com.
