This morning, a jury in Pennsylvania found Bill Cosby guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, so the Bounce TV network has decided that today is as good a day as any to stop showing reruns of The Cosby Show. That comes from Variety, which reports that the Atlanta-based network released a statement that said, simply, “Effective immediately, Bounce is removing The Cosby Show from our schedule.”
That may seem like a fairly reasonable decision, since very few people are going to want to watch The Cosby Show now that its star is facing 30 years in prison for assault, but Bounce began airing regular Cosby Show reruns in 2016—after the wave of accusations against Cosby had come out. In fact, Bounce had initially pulled The Cosby Show in 2015 when every other network did the same thing, but when it brought the show back it seemed to pretend that the scandal surrounding Cosby had never happened.
Because of that, pulling the show now seems like it’s less about doing the right thing and more about the network quietly hoping that nobody notices that it had fucked up the first time around.
