Cardi B is one of rap’s hottest rising stars—and one if its most record-breaking. She was the first solo female rapper to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill in 1998 with her song “Bodak Yellow” last September, and in January she set another record as the third artist ever—and first hip-hop artist—to have their first three singles on the Billboard Top 10 at the same time. (As Noisey points out, those would be her features on G Eazy’s “No Limit” and Migos’ “Motorsport,” as well as, of course, “Bodak Yellow.”)
Cardi B released two mixtapes, both called Gangsta Bitch Music, in 2016 and 2017. But now she’s officially announced a release date for the full-length studio album—her first–she’s been teasing for months. Last night, she posted the album’s title, Invasion Of Privacy, and cover art on Instagram:
First an Instagram star, then a reality TV star on Vh1's Love & Hip-Hop New York, the Bronx native took an unconventional—and very 21st century—path to music stardom. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Cardi B stood up for the rights of “video vixens” in the #MeToo movement, saying, “a lot of video vixens have spoke about this and nobody gives a fuck,” adding of producers and directors recently shocked into action on sexual harassment and assault: “They’re not woke, they’re scared.”
