Carrot Top says he's okay, returning to comedy

In a statement on his Instagram account on Saturday, comedian Carrot Top assured his fans that he is both all right and returning to his stand-up career. The venerable prop comic (real name Scott Thompson) was admitted to a Las Vegas hospital on September 18 following what TMZ and other outlets have called a suicide attempt.

At the time, representatives for the comic only stated, “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.” Since then, fans have speculated on Thompson’s condition and future, prompting him to speak out yesterday.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes I’ve received over the past couple of weeks,” Thompson’s statement began. “Every message, text, and kind thought has meant more to me than you know. While I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually, please know that I’ve felt your love and appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being there for me during this time. It truly means the world to me!” The comedian also explained, perhaps surprisingly, that he would be returning to his long-running residency performing at the Luxor Hotel & Casino on Monday, October 19, just a month and a day after his hospital admission. (It should also be noted that Thompson was named in a sexual misconduct lawsuit just days previous to his hospitalization.)

Fellow celebrities have commented with their support on Carrot Top’s page, including fellow comedian Jay Mohr and actress and creator Hannah Einbinder. (Thompson, as Carrot Top, made a memorable cameo on Einbinder’s Hacks in 2024.) As for the rapid return to his Luxor stand-up grounds, one can only hope Thompson has consulted with those closest to him and his medical professionals about the wisest course of action.
