CBS is making a Nancy Drew series
According to Deadline, CBS has begun development on a new drama series based on the adventures of classic amateur detective Nancy Drew. Grey’s Anatomy executive producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan will co-write and co-executive produce the series, which will reportedly be a “contemporary take” on Nancy Drew. We’d give you a chance to guess what that “contemporary take” will be, but we’re pretty sure it’s so obvious that guessing at all is unnecessary: She’s now a detective with the NYPD, “where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.” Deadline doesn’t use the word “procedural,” but you don’t have to be a plucky teen detective to figure out that it’s absolutely going to be a standard procedural that just so happens to be about a girl named Nancy Drew.
Also, since this will be a (loose) adaptation of the Nancy Drew books that takes their basic premise and twists it into a procedural structure, that means we get to refer to it as a proceduralation—the word we invented to refer to shows just like this. Granted, it’s not an especially heavy proceduralation, because the original books were already mystery stories, but we only get so many chances to use that word as it is. Let us have this one.
