Cirque Du Soleil is producing an Avatar-themed show, and you will like it
In a persuasive example of the power of shoving something down people’s throats until they have no choice but to get into it, Cirque Du Soleil president and CEO Daniel Lamarre announced yesterday that his merry band of French-Canadian circus folk is pairing with James Cameron to produce a new show “inspired by the Avatar universe.”
This isn’t Cameron’s first time working with Cirque Du Soleil—he previously produced the 3D documentary Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away—but presumably united by their mutual habit of referring to themselves as “visionaries,” he and Lamarre have decided to collaborate again. In a press conference in Montreal announcing the show, Fox film chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos said “As Jim Cameron prepares to take us to even greater heights with three new Avatar films, we’re thrilled with the innovative experience he’s developing in this groundbreaking agreement with Cirque Du Soleil,” prompting all three men to fall to the floor and start furiously making out with each other. The traveling arena show will tour the world in late 2015, so make sure your grandma knows that Star Wars and Avatar are not the same thing and you really would prefer cash for your birthday before then.
