As Chappell Roan once said, everything good happens after midnight. CBS is hoping that adage applies to the old After Midnight time slot as it announces the comedy show’s successor. Syndicated comedy series Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen will officially take over the 12:30 a.m. space when Taylor Tomlinson’s comedy game show After Midnight ends this summer.

Tomlinson announced her intention to return to stand-up touring full time in March, leaving the old Late Late Show With James Corden slot vacant once again. This isn’t CBS’ first time with this particular empty slot on their hands, though, and the network had already found a reliable stopgap in Allen’s panel-style series. Back in 2023, CBS aired episodes of the show to bridge the gap during the writers strike until a new program could be announced. This time, its run will last at least through the 2025-2026 season, although Variety reports that many episodes will be repeats, with a few previously taped segments that never made it to air thrown into the mix.

Comics Unleashed originally premiered in 2006 and has since featured the likes of Tiffany Haddish, Gabriel Iglesias, Cedric the Entertainer, Howie Mandel, Leslie Jones, Wayne Brady, Roy Wood, Jr., Whitney Cummings, JB Smoove, Dane Cook, Kevin Hart, Chelsea Handler, Iliza Shlesinger, and more. “Comics Unleashed is a true passion for me, simply because this world can never have enough laughter,” Byron Allen said in a statement. “I created this show so that the best comedians can all come together and help bring non-stop laughter.”

Comics Unleashed will begin its new run with two back-to-back episodes following The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on September 22. The show will also be available to stream live for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers.
