Curry Barker's next movie gets a release date

Curry Barker’s follow-up to this year’s record-setting horror breakout Obsession has secured a release date. On Tuesday, Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster announced that the actor and filmmaker’s next movie, Anything But Ghosts, will be released in theaters nationwide on May 7, 2027. Barker co-wrote the film with his longtime collaborator and Obsession star Cooper Tomlinson. Barker and Tomlinson will star as “wannabe ‘ghosthunters’ who find themselves in over their heads as things spiral wildly and terrifyingly out of control,” per the official logline. The cast also includes Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Aaron Paul.

The movie’s release date is similar to Obsession‘s, so Focus may be hoping to strike gold again next May. Obsession grossed $519 million worldwide and became Focus Features’ highest-grossing film ever, an impressive feat for a movie with a reported budget of less than $1 million. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published in June, Barker described Anything But Ghosts as a “buddy comedy,” but promised that it’s “still going to be scary and messed up.” And while Barker’s recent Obsession success has influenced some elements of the production, don’t expect it to recycle the same ideas. “Thank God I have people around me to ground me and tell me that Anything But Ghosts is good and different, and that’s OK,” he said. “Nobody wants the same movie twice. So people can expect it to be very different than Obsession, but my voice will still be very strong in it.”
