After all: Knowing is half the battle.

You now have two years to prepare yourself for the next G.I. Joe movie

It’s been five long years since Americans were last granted the chance to watch a G.I. Joes movies in theaters. (You remember Snake Eyes, right? We all absolutely remember that there was a G.I. Joes-spinoff Snake Eyes movie put out by Paramount in 2021.) Now, Danny McBride’s passionate pitch to play with the Joes is finally ready to correct this horrific oversight, as Variety confirms the news: You have almost exactly two years to prepare yourselves for another G.I. Joes film.

This is per a general schedule reshuffle from freshly merged studio behemoth Skydance, which announced that the Joes film—which will both star Bradley Cooper, and serve as McBride’s directorial debut—has now been set for October 20, 2028. And, look, we know: That’s not a lot of time to prepare yourself for all the potential disappointments of this particular franchise, which has skipped like a stone across the American box office for 17 years without ever making a significant impact. But while hearing that Cooper is playing Joes main guy Duke—a character so boring he doesn’t even get his own accent—is kind of a bummer, we have heard McBride give some interviews where he revealed he’s a genuine nut for the weirder aspects of the military franchise. (Including revealing that he initially pitched then-Paramount on a movie based on extremely minor bad guys The Dreadnoks, and his interest in the “American town secretly subverted by Cobra” setting of Springfield.) The upshot of this is that there may, in fact, be some actual ideas in this G.I. Joes movie, which would be an interesting change of pace for those of us who made it through The Rise Of Cobra and Retaliation, if nothing else.

Meanwhile, Skydance also announced—in partnership with the recently renamed Blumhouse Atomic—that it’s also setting a new date for the next film in the Paranormal Activity franchise. Directed by Undertone‘s Ian Tuason, the film was previously scheduled for May of 2027, but has now been put into prime horror territory with an October 22, 2027 release.
