Prime Video hilariously misreads room, debuts Melania: The Series trailer

For the first two years of Trump 2.0, the billionaires and the conglomerates they head were tripping over themselves trying to prove their fealty to the President. It was this environment that brought Melania, a puff-piece documentary from Brett Ratner focused on the First Lady and enriched her husband, into the world. In the months since, the country has only further soured on Trump and his cronies, if we’re meant to take this week’s historic midterm election as any indication. Let’s assume the blue tsunami was powered by affordability issues—surely, this is not time for another Melania puff-piece, this time made out of footage that didn’t make it into the original doc, right?

Well, Prime Video shared the trailer for the two-episode series this morning anyway. The clip consists mostly of unremarkable footage captured nearly two years ago, accompanied by a very 2000s-sounding voice-over. Like the documentary before it, both episodes of Melania: The Series are directed by Ratner and are made up from footage taken immediately before, during, and after the January 2025 inauguration. Unlike the original doc, this one is not going to theaters, so there won’t be any box office receipts to verify whether this one is as much the “good business decision” that Jeff Bezos called the first. You can watch the episodes on November 20, if you want.
