Darren Aronofsky agreeing to direct pretty much any man-with-metal-parts story these days

While Darren Aronofsky’s reboot of Robocop remains hindered by the Prime Directives of MGM’s bankruptcy plan, the director seems to have found a younger, similar-looking model in Machine Man, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Max Barry (Company, Jennifer Government), which was first published as an online serial. The story concerns a gadget-loving engineer who begins replacing his weak, flabby human parts with titanium upgrades—a story that’s not only similar to Robocop, but also to Iron Man, and with a title (if not exactly plot) reminiscent of the Jack Kirby-created Marvel character. It’s also not unlike Aronofsky’s next project, Wolverine 2, which also concerns a character whose weak, flabby human parts are replaced by super-strong metal. Basically, Darren Aronofsky wants to make a metal-man movie so fucking bad. We wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he’s doing a remake of Tetsuo: The Iron Man tomorrow, which we sort of suspect is his intention with these things anyway.
