Dave Chappelle announces 3 new stand-up specials for Netflix
Dave Chappelle will be bringing three new stand-up specials to Netflix. Two of the shows will come from the comedian’s personal comedy vault, from shows that were taped at Austin City Limits and The Hollywood Palladium, respectively. For the third, Chappelle will produce a brand-new special exclusively for Netflix with director Stan Lathan, who worked with Chappelle on two of his previous stand-up specials. This will mark Chappelle’s first concert specials since 2004’s Dave Chappelle: For What It’s Worth.
Presumably, Netflix waited to see if Chappelle actually showed up for Saturday Night Live last week before making the announcement: Even musical guests A Tribe Called Quest weren’t sure that the host was going to show up. But he did, and Chappelle’s appearance marked a season high for the sketch comedy series and showcased Chappelle (who obviously had a heavy hand in the writer’s room) performing his signature mix of silly and socially relevant comedy.
Two of the specials are slated for a simultaneous release in 2017. A release date for the third, yet-to-be-taped special has not been announced.
