Nearly six months after his death, David Bowie memorabilia continues to make its way to market, from very expensive vinyl to handwritten lyric sheets. The latest memento to come up for auction is actually a souvenir from a past attempt at memorializing the iconic artist: The Associated Press reports that a lock of Bowie’s hair that was obtained for his wax figure at Madame Tussaud’s will be up for auction this weekend.
Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills is overseeing the bidding for the lock of hair, which is expected to fetch over $4,000. The current owner is Wendy Farrier, a former employee of Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London. Bowie posed for the figure in 1983, presumably during a break from his highly successful Serious Moonlight Tour. Farrier told Newsweek that, as a huge Bowie fan, she was allowed to cut his hair to make a wig for his wax figure. She kept a tendril for herself, but is seemingly ready to part with it three decades later.
