David Lynch has announced that he’s curating his first festival, known as Festival Of Disruption, with musical performances, talks, and artsy showcases from some of his friends. The event will be held in Los Angeles’ Ace Hotel on October 8 and 9, and all of the proceeds are going to the David Lynch Foundation—which uses Transcendental Meditation to help at-risk people deal with stress and trauma. Now, this festival may seem like an exciting thing for Lynch’s many fans, but from what we saw of his museum exhibit back in 2014, the idea of an entire two-day event designed by the famously weird filmmaker is a uniquely terrifying prospect. Well, terrifying and pretty cool.
On the music side of things, the festival will feature performances from Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters, St. Vincent, Rhye, Jon Hopkins, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and music from Angelo Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks soundtrack with Sky Ferreira and Xiu Xiu. There will also be talks from architect Frank Gehry, Mel Brooks, Chris Stein and Debbie Harry from Blondie, and Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern (who will be appearing together in the new Twin Peaks).
If that’s not enough, there will be photography exhibits from Lynch himself and Chris Stein, as well as “virtual reality experiences,” “a new dance piece,” and DJ sets from Questlove and KCRW’s Jason Bentley. On top of all of that, there will be screenings of “rarely seen Lynch short films and classics,” and—of course—daily meditation sessions.
