Agents of Mayhem Developer Volition Hit by Layoffs

While many of us enjoy a good, old-fashioned absurd open-world game from Volition, it seems that their latest title Agents of Mayhem just didn’t do well enough. Per Kotaku, the studio of roughly 200 employees has laid off over 30 people, including general manager and studio head Dan Cermak. According to the report, Mayhem, which received a lukewarm reception, struggled in sales.

Before Agents, Volition was best known for the increasingly wacky Saints Row series and the Mars-based Red Faction games. After THQ in its original form went bankrupt, the studio was acquired by publisher Deep Silver, who published Saints Row IV, the standalone expansion Gat Out of Hell and pseudo-follow-up Agents of Mayhem.

According to Polygon, while no sales numbers have been released, Mayhem did not make much of a splash on the PC, with just around 31,000 owners on that platform, and only 92 concurrent players logging in on Steam yesterday.
