Looking for the love getaway? A final love getaway? You’re in luck. The B-52s are hopping on to Devo’s extended farewell tour for a final stretch of shows. The Cosmic De-Evolution tour will conclude the new wave innovators’ decades-long careers, with Lene Lovitch opening the shows. While Devo has been saying “so long” since 2023, continuously extending its goodbye tour, The B-52s got off the tour bus years ago, making this the “Love Shack” hit-makers’ first time on the road since 2022. The group has since launched a successful Las Vegas residency, much to the delight of the 73-year-old frontman, Fred Schneider.

“In 2022, I swore I’d never get on a tour bus again, but we were careful to say to our fans that we would still perform in special situations that don’t require all of the awful tour travel,” Schneider said in a press release. “Our Vegas residency is going great, and when we were offered the chance to do a small run of shows with Devo, we all said this is an extraordinary opportunity we couldn’t say no to.”

Though Devo and The B-52s have similar histories as the video-forward new wave acts with surprising staying power and chart success with deconstructionist conceptual pop music, this is their first tour together. However, the two headlined the SNL50 show together, which inspired Mark Mothersbaugh to declare the B-52s the one he wants for the band’s farewell tour. “The B-52s had one of the best sounds of any of the bands out there in the late ’70s early ’80s – ‘Rock Lobster’ is one of my favorite songs – DEVO used to sing it to Booji Boy after DEVO shows. It was either fate or luck or the SNL anniversary that brought us all together to create this amazing chance to go out on tour. All I can say is Cosmic Devolution is REAL!”
