Honey, Doctor Who is Velma, not Scooby-Doo, in second season trailer

The Doctor takes the nurse to space Eurovision in the new trailer for Doctor Who

Honey, Doctor Who is Velma, not Scooby-Doo, in second season trailer

Our little Doctor is finally growing up. After 62 years on television, Doctor Who is finally entering its second season. However, while this seasonal numbering convention would be too egregious even for the chaos agent behind the iPhone’s numerals, this new season freshens the ancient formula up. With the latest trailer for its upcoming season, Doctor Who stuffs the TARDIS with intrigue, danger, and a fun bit of banter between The Doctor and his latest companion, “Nurse.” The names keep getting better and better. For example, Alan Cumming is guest-starring this season as a malevolent cartoon character named Mr. Ring-a-Ding.

This jaunt across the timeline sees The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) helping the Nurse, whose name is actually Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), return to Earth. However, a mysterious force is complicating their quest by bringing weirder and stranger monsters and enemies home, including a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton and the aforementioned Cumming-powered Ring-a-Ding. But we’re not going anywhere until we see a few of the performers at this intergalactic Eurovision Song Contest. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for a little “Jaja Ding Dong.”

To confuse everyone, this is the 15th series of the latest iteration of Doctor Who (and the 41st overall). It again stars Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. Don’t worry, Whovians. Despite the appearance of a new companion, who probably does the same job as the Doctor but for a fraction of the pay, we’re not saying goodbye to Ruby Tuesday (Millie Gibson) yet. Tuesday will provide ground support for her bowler derby sporting Time Lord throughout the season.

Step aboard the TARDIS for another spin through time with the new season of Doctor Who, landing on the BBC and Disney+ on April 12.
