It’s pretty well-established at this point that Donald Trump is a big dummy, and now that he’s in the news all the time, he has a lot more opportunities to make the sort of mistakes that are befitting of someone who is such a big dummy. Also, it’s worth noting that the mistakes Trump makes as a big dummy are separate from the mistakes he makes as a president. He may be attempting to enact overtly racist and/or destructive policies, but those aren’t because he’s a big dummy, they’re because he’s overtly racist and/or destructive.
Today, though, Trump did make a classic big dummy mistake when he honored St. Patrick’s Day by reading his favorite Irish proverb:
Unfortunately for the big dummy, that Irish proverb isn’t actually Irish at all. As noted by a user on Twitter (via The Root), it was written by a Nigerian poet named Albashir Adam Alhassan:
A normal person probably would’ve looked up this Irish proverb on the internet before reading it like this, but Trump’s not a normal person. He’s America’s biggest dummy.
