Josh Holloway and J.J. Abrams get Lost in the '70s for Duster teaser

Josh Holloway is finally back on our screens in a leading role. (His last came in 2016 sci-fi drama Colony, with a brief season three arc in Yellowstone to whet fans’ palates in the interim.) Even better for Lost fans, we can kind of pretend this is a Sawyer origin story. He’s a getaway driver instead of a con-man in Duster, but he’s still doing a bunch of illegal stuff before the turn of the century. This Lost fan says close enough!

The real treat for Losties is that Duster reunites Holloway with Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams said that he and Duster co-creator LaToya Morgan wrote the show with Holloway in mind. “He’s someone I just love working with. And with age, I think he’s gotten even more comfortable with his wry swagger and toughness, and also vulnerability and being unsure of himself,” Abrams lauded. “It’s a tough balancing act. He’s a great-looking guy, but he’s genuinely funny and big hearted and he brings that to the character.”

You can see some of that characteristic wit on display in the show’s first teaser, which Max released today:

Set in the 1970s Southwest (as is made immediately clear by all those great outfits), Duster “explores the life of a gutsy getaway driver (Holloway) for a growing crime syndicate that goes from dangerous to wildly, stupidly dangerous when a tenacious young agent (Rachel Hilson) comes into town hellbent on taking his crime family down.”

“The thing that was most exciting for me was that we could do something that was a throwback to things that are not really on television anymore,” Morgan told THR. “You could have this fun pastiche of action and humor. It was really a chance to jump into something with both feet.”

Duster premieres May 15 on Max, with new episodes following weekly.
