DVD Release List - 9/30/08
New music isn't the only media to be released on Tuesdays; it's unveiling day for new DVDs as well…
Two of the most compelling documentaries of the past few years highlight this week's releases: both the "Are steroids really so bad?" inquiry Bigger, Stronger, Faster* and the "What the hell has gone wrong with American foreign policy?" screed Taxi To The Dark Side make strong cases, and are effective as portraits of American life in the early 21st century. Also this week, TV historians can re-experience the first half of the first season of My Three Sons and the complete runs of the furry romance Beauty And The Beast, the insurance-happy detective series Banacek, and the Burt Reynolds actioner B.L. Stryker, while world cinema buffs can enjoy the Criterion edition of Ozu's An Autumn Afternoon. This week also sees the release of one of the summer's best blockbusters, Iron Man, in a special edition set that includes comprehensive featurettes about the making of the movie and the history of the character.
