"Choosin' Texas" is officially the longest-running number one song ever

Ella Langley has dethroned Mariah Carey once again, achieving a record 23 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 with “Choosin’ Texas,” a song that has been either inescapable or totally absent from your life, depending on your algorithm. Such is the reality of having a hit song in 2026. Even so, “Choosin’ Texas” has been able to do something that none of the other recent streaming megahits—like Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” or Shaboozey’s “Bar Song (Tipsy)”—have been able to do, which is beat the reign of Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which itself only became a number one song in the streaming era and has since returned to the summit of the Hot 100 every year since 2019, and likely will again this holiday season. Still, it’ll probably be a while before someone beats Langley’s record of the longest-running non-holiday single.
