Andrew Scott will make you weep in new trailer for Elsinore

If you still haven’t moved on from Andrew Scott’s Hot Priest delivering the devastating line, “It’ll pass,” in Fleabag (it’s only been seven years, but who’s counting?), the Irish actor is back with another tearjerker. On Monday, Focus Features released the first trailer for Elsinore, directed by Simon Stone and written by Stephen Beresford. The heartbreaking, inspiring drama is based on the real-life story of Chariots of Fire actor Ian Charleson, who pushed through his complications from AIDS to step into the role of Hamlet at London’s National Theatre after Daniel Day-Lewis abruptly ditched the production.

The official synopsis reads: “The deeply emotional and inspirational true story of Ian Charleson, a gifted actor whose greatest challenge becomes his greatest triumph. Facing his own mortality with unflinching honesty, wit, and grace, Charleson delivers a courageous performance that becomes a source of healing and inspiration for those around him.” It’s a meaty role for Scott, whose recent work includes the romantic drama All of Us Strangers, the Emmy-nominated Ripley miniseries, and the 2025 Knives Out sequel Wake Up Dead Man (where he was severely underutilized). Elsinore debuted at the Telluride Film Festival before screening at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month. Scott is already earning rave reviews for his performance.

Elsinore releases in select theaters on November 20. The film also stars Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Matthew Beard, and Joe Locke. You can watch the trailer below.
