Greed is a hell of a thing, and this trailer for HBO’s The Wizard Of Lies shows just how destructive it can be when it goes unchecked. The movie is about the fall of Bernie Madoff, the disgraced stockbroker who scammed his clients out of $65 billion, and though this trailer almost casts him in a sympathetic light, it also makes it clear that nobody else is especially fond of him. Family members get mad at Robert De Niro’s Madoff when he snaps at a girl for asking how Wall Street is doing, people in court talk about how he ruined their lives, and in what is presumably a dream sequence, an intruder shoots him while a mass of reporters unflinchingly take photos.
The Wizard Of Lies also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Hank Azaria, Lily Rabe, Kristen Connolly, and Nathan Darrow. It was directed by You Don’t Know Jack‘s Barry Levinson, and it will premiere on HBO on May 20.
