Peanuts is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and to commemorate everyone’s favorite blockhead and the dog who humiliates him, Craft Recordings is reissuing an expanded edition of the Vince Guaraldi Trio classic Jazz Impressions Of A Boy Named Charlie Brown. Originally recorded as the soundtrack to the ill-fated 1963 documentary A Boy Named Charlie Brown, Jazz Impressions is the original home of the defacto Peanuts theme song, “Linus And Lucy,” which you can hear a new version of here, and it has been remastered from the original tapes by Grammy winner Paul Blakemore. The two-disc collection includes all nine original tracks and a bonus disc of never-before-heard studio tests, alternate takes, and more surprises. The album will also come with new liner notes from Peanuts historian and Vince Guaraldi At The Piano author Derrick Bang and essays from producer Lee Mendelson and music journalist Ralph J. Gleason, which were included in the initial pressing.
If that’s not enough good grief, the fine folks at Craft also provided The A.V. Club with an exclusive track from the album, “Pebble Beach (Take 7),” featuring a different solo and lyrical lines from Guaraldi.
Jazz Impressions Of A Boy Named Charlie Brown hits record stores on April 11, and the Record Stay Day exclusive goes on sale on—when else—Record Store Day, April 12.
