Extraction recruits James Bond, Gilgamesh, that huge bloke from 28 Years Later

For a streaming exclusive, Netflix’s Extraction franchise, based on the comics by Ande Parks and Fernando Leon Gonzalez, has shown remarkable staying power. Instead of being crushed between the gears of Netflix’s ceaseless content engine like so many other genre non-starters, it’s continued humming along at a blistering clip thanks to Sam Hargrave’s stunts-minded direction and an ever-expanding roster of action-movie stalwarts, which is swelling to Expendables-levels for its upcoming third entry.

Deadline has the exclusive scoop that Extraction 3, currently filming in Australia, has added to its cast Pierce Brosnan (MobLand, that spy franchise you’re currently thinking of), Don Lee (Eternals, Train To Busan), Joe Taslim (fresh off this year’s Hong Kong hit, The Furious), Siena Agudong (Prime Video’s upcoming Carrie series), and Chi Lewis-Parry (Samson from 28 Years Later; you know who we’re talking about). Series regulars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake and Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan—who were joined by Idris Elba’s Alcott in Extraction 2, expected to return—will be contending with some of the most interesting actors in the action genre this side of the Fast & Furious franchise—and Netflix is keeping mum about the roles they’ll play in the action havoc yet to come.

Here are some things we do know: Lee, who recently wrapped filming on the franchise’s Korean-language expansion, Tygo, plays a “former child soldier turned mercenary,” and Hargrave returns as director, with a script by David Weil (Citadel, Hunters) based on a story by Parks and executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo.

Netflix has also gone radio silent on Extraction 3‘s logline. And while it’s likely they’re perfectly happy with the efficiency of their franchise titling, might we offer a suggestion for a new subtitle: Extraction: Expansion? It’s alliterative and fun to say!
