The stakes are about as high as they can get in Foundation season three teaser

Apple TV+ may have reigned in its spending ever so slightly, but you wouldn’t know it from the insane production value of the Foundation season three teaser. The impressive spacecraft and large-scale warfare wouldn’t be out of place in a big-screen blockbuster. Appropriately, the stakes are as high as possible in the upcoming installment, premiering July 11: “If we fail, humanity will be lost forever,” Gaal (Lou Llobell) declares in the teaser. “We act or we lose.”

“Set 152 years after the events of season two, The Foundation has become increasingly established far beyond its humble beginnings while the Cleonic Dynasty’s Empire has dwindled,” a synopsis from Apple reads. “As both of these galactic powers forge an uneasy alliance, a threat to the entire galaxy appears in the fearsome form of a warlord known as ‘The Mule’ whose sights are set on ruling the universe by use of physical and military force, as well as mind control. It’s anyone’s guess who will win, who will lose, who will live and who will die as Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons and Demerzel play a potentially deadly game of intergalactic chess.”

The Foundation season three teaser serves as a proper introduction to the formidable Isaac Asimov villain The Mule, now played by Game Of ThronesPilou Asbæk (in the character’s brief previous appearance, he was played by Mikael Persbrandt). Other newcomers to the saga include Emmy winner Cherry Jones (Succession) as Foundation Ambassador Quent; Synnøve Karlsen (Bodies, Medici) and Cody Fern (American Horror Story) as Bayta and Toran Mallow, a newlywed couple investigating The Mule; Brandon P. Bell (Dear White People) as Han Pritcher, a captain in the Foundation Navy; Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing (Really Love) as Song; Leo Bill (Becoming Elizabeth) as Indbur, Mayor of Terminus; Oscar winner Troy Katsur as Preem Palver, the leader of a planet of psychics; Alexander Siddig as Dr. Ebling Mis, a prominent Foundation psychologist; and Tómas Lemarquis (Blade Runner 2049) as Magnifico Giganticus, The Mule’s clown (in the books, Magnifico is The Mule in disguise, so we’ll see how that plays out).

These new characters join returning stars Llobell, Jared Harris, and Lee Pace for the upcoming season, which will air new episodes weekly. In addition to the teaser, Apple has released some first-look photos of the saga ahead of the premiere. You can check them out below.
