Fox has now renewed all of its animated shows… except The Great North

Fox has been handing down renewal notices like mad lately, suggesting that the network—which has been in a sort of mandatory rebuilding period ever since selling off big parts of its portfolio to Disney in 2019, including ownership of several of its biggest shows—is pretty happy with where its scripted offerings are currently at. Fox already renewed most of its Disney-owned shows (including The SimpsonsBob’s BurgersFamily Guy, and American Dad!) through 2029 last month, and renewed its two live-action comedies (Animal Control and Going Dutch) earlier this week. Now it’s given out renewal notices for animated shows GrimsburgKrapopolis, and Universal Basic Guys, which, for those of you without a good handle on math or a firm grasp of the Fox schedule, leaves just one Fox cartoon still out in the cold: The Great North.

Just so we have everything on the tally sheet: The Jon Hamm-starring Grimsburg has been renewed for its third season, while Krapopolis, the Greek gods comedy created by Dan Harmon, has been renewed through season 5. (Both shows are owned in-house by Fox Entertainment Studios.) Universal Basic Guys, from Sony, is the newest addition to the list, although it also got a season 3 renewal, getting the nod before its second season had even begun to air.

Which just leaves Great North, created by Bob’s Burgers vets Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux, plus Regular Show alum Minty Lewis. The series, which stars Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Dulcé Sloan, Paul Rust, and Aparna Nancherla, is set to finish out its fifth season later this month. Eric Schrier, who oversees the show’s production at Disney, recently said that he believes the show is still “under consideration” at Fox, saying, “I don’t think Fox has made a final determination on it; it’s another show that we really love. It’d be great for it to continue, but I understand if they’re not able to.”
