Frances O’Connor to call on paranormal investigators in The Conjuring 2

The Conjuring 2 has been plagued—some might say, cursed—with troubles from the beginning. The producers are embroiled in a court battle over who has the right to make money off someone else’s life story (even if that person’s still living). And the release date has been tossed about as if by a poltergeist. But the sequel to the high-grossing 2013 film does have some good news to share—according to The Hollywood Reporter, Frances O’Connor (The Missing) has just been cast as the mother of a haunted girl.

The sequel, whose full title is The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, will reportedly be based on Ed and Lorraine Warren’s real-life investigation of a pair of supposedly possessed sisters in Enfield, England. THR’s post lists only one girl as being in the clutches of Satan, but that’s probably more than enough for O’Connor’s character to deal with. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are reprising their roles as the Warrens, who were demon hunting in Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston’s home in the original.

Production on The Conjuring 2 is set to begin later this month. James Wan is returning to direct the sequel using a script he co-wrote with The Conjuring screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes. It’s still scheduled for a June 2016 release date, because there’s nothing scarier than summer—for demonic spirits, that is.
