Freeform—formerly ABC Family—is taking advantage of its new branding to break into the world of late night talk, confirming this week that it’s teaming up with comedian Iliza Shlesinger for a six-week trial run on the comic’s new show, Truth & Iliza. The series—originally discussed last year—will star Shlesinger and her “societal observations” as they tackle a daily themed question with her guests.
Shlesinger has been a rising star in the comedy world for the last several years, parlaying a win on NBC’s Last Comic Standing into three stand-up specials, including two produced by and for Netflix. Now she’s hoping to translate her mean streak and acerbic wit into the crowded-but-not-with-women world of comedy late night. “I’m so grateful to Freeform for inviting me to create a show that occupies a space between social commentary, politics, pop culture and my specific brand of comedy and feminism,” Shlesinger said in a statement about the show.
Truth & Iliza will air weeknights at 10 p.m. on Freeform, starting on May 2.
