FXX’s never-ending Simpsons marathon pauses for a musical number
Now that the world has accepted its fate and plunged into the sweet oblivion of watching The Simpsons every night forever, it’s time for FXX to start getting creative. Or to start reading press releases, at least, because its newest programming shtick ties in to that Simpsons-themed event at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend. Called “The Simpsons Take The Bowl,” the event will feature a live orchestra and guest appearances from Simpsons voice actors and celebrity pals like Jon Lovitz and “Weird” Al Yankovic (who, despite the best judgment of all involved, might be there to sing “Brain Freeze.”) Plus fireworks!
We can’t all live in Hollyweird (though if you do, we’re giving away tickets), so FXX will marathon the same eight episodes that are featured in the Hollywood Bowl show tomorrow night, September 11, beginning at 8 p.m. Here are those episodes and their featured songs, as reported in Variety:
8 p.m. – “Marge vs. The Monorail” (Season 4) – “Monorail Song.”
8:30 p.m. – “Homer’s Barbershop Quartet” (Season 5) – “Baby on Board.”
9 p.m. – “Homer the Great” (Season 6) – “We Do – The Stonecutters Song.”
9:30 p.m. – “Two Dozen and One Greyhounds” (Season 6) – “See My Vest.”
10 p.m. – “Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part 2” (Season 7) – “Señor Burns.”
10:30 p.m. – “A Fish Called Selma” (Season 7) – “Dr. Zaius” and “Chimpan A to Chimpan Z.”
11 p.m. – “Bart After Dark” (Season 8) – “We Put the Spring in Springfield.”
11:30 p.m. – “Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious” (Season 8) – “Minimum Wage Nanny.”
Maybe next week, FXX can run the other kind of Simpsons musical marathon by playing the episodes featuring the voices of Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, the Ramones, Barry White, James Taylor, any number of ex-Beatles, or any of the dozens of other musicians who have voiced characters on the show. (Alternately, it can just run “Homerpalooza” eight times.) That one’s free, FXX—as long as you agree not to play either of the Baha Men episodes.
