This, per a briefly posted, and now apparently rescinded, message posted on the web site for Fyre Fest 2, which stated that the event had been postponed, and that tickets were no longer available. Per NBC News, that statement has now been apparently pulled back, but that kind of waffling definitely suggests cracks are starting to form in a structure that already seemed to be, like, 95 percent cracks by volume. At the very least, the event is now definitely not taking place in Playa del Carmen, the small Mexican city that had previously issued a public statement refuting claims it would be hosting the event in late May and early June. A statement to people who have already bought their tickets, meanwhile—who, for legal reasons, we are not allowed to refer to as “suckers,” “rubes,” “pigeons,” “dupes,” “soft-touches,” or the always popular “chumps”—claims that “FYRE Festival 2 is still on. We are vetting new locations and will announce our host destination soon. Our priorities remain unchanged: delivering an unforgettable, safe, and transparent experience.”
Per NBC News, organizer Billy McFarland—of both the aforementioned Fyre Fest, and the aforementioned Fyre Fest-based jail time—has stated that things are all a little uncertain now thanks to the change in venue, suggesting that the festival might move off of its May 30 start date. The ticketholders statement, though, apparently went a lot harder, claiming this is all the fault of the evil Playa del Carmen government, writing, “You can’t make this stuff up. When a government takes your money, issues permits, promotes the event, and then pretends it’s never heard of you, that’s not just dishonest — it’s theft. Due to this, we have decided to move FYRE Festival 2 elsewhere.”
