Get in a “Bohemian Groove” with Nick Diamonds of The Unicorns, Islands

Fans of Islands and The Unicorns hopefully know the music of Nick Diamonds, the singer-songwriter who fronted both lo-fi acts, among others, before composing much of the music for Serial. Diamonds—né Thorburn—has been a part of a number of bands, but this spring he’ll release a new solo album, City Of Quartz, via his own label, Manque Music. His first solo LP since 2011’s I Am An Attic, City Of Quartz finds Diamond exploring everything from dark and menacing sounds to playful synth-pop melodies. Some of that is evident in “Bohemian Groove,” which The A.V. Club is exclusively premiering below. Frontloaded with a bunch of blooping bass, the track is rife with the kind of weirdness Unicorns fans fell in love with but still manages to lodge itself in listeners’ ears, a la the poppiest pop classic.

City Of Quartz is available for pre-order now via iTunes and as an LP via Manque Music.
