Get Involved, Internet: Fund a documentary on the early years of Nickelodeon
One happy side effect of our society’s combined surfeit of underemployed creative types and fascination with nostalgia is a booming documentary field. No longer is the genre reserved solely for adult-oriented, soul-crushing portraits of human suffering and esoteric musings. Now, you can sit back and indulge in any number of docs about superhero movies, superhero movies that never got made, toys, and other kinds of toys. And if none of that successfully whisks you away to to those happy after-school afternoons of your youth, then this soon-to-be-made story of the Nickelodeon Channel should do the trick.
The prospective retrospective’s Indiegogo page offers insight into the intent of filmmakers Scott Barber and Adam Sweeney:
The Orange Years journeys behind the scenes of the “kids first” phenomenonal programming to chronicle the unprecedented success of Nickelodeon, straight from the mouths of those who brought the classic shows to us as children. Filled with interviews from the actors, writers, animators, and creators from all your favorite golden age Nick shows, the film offers a new perspective on Nickelodeon, from the humble origins of the channel deep into the SNICK years.
At the time of this writing, Barber and Sweeney have collected about six percent of their $12,000 flexible goal for the budget.
