Prepare yourself for the Melania Cinematic Universe

The First Lady's 2026 documentary is being expanded into a series, says director Brett Ratner.

Prepare yourself for the Melania Cinematic Universe

In less-than-thrilling news for pop culture and political writers, there are now plans to expand the Prime Video documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, titled Melania, into a docuseries—a veritable cinematic universe designed to further whitewash her husband’s notorious administration through scripted, heavily produced counterprogramming that contrasts with the documentary format’s typical candidness and its less economical relationship with reality outside certain ivory towers.

The announcement, such as it is, came from the First Lady’s senior advisor Marc Beckman, who took to Real America’s Voice on August 3 to stir up hype for future installments, with Trump family friend and Melania director Brett Ratner posting on his Instagram account with uncut Trumpian brio, “can’t [sic] wait to share with everyone around the world the next two chapters of MELANIA, THE DOCU SERIES!” As for the substance or focus of this expansion, Beckman told RAV that future installments will be a “total [sic] different experience, completely new,” and “show a part of the First Lady that hasn’t been seen yet.” Refresh me: Did Mrs. Trump decorate the White House for Halloween? Because that would be something, I guess.

This two-pronged announcement of the burgeoning MelCU makes sense for Amazon, which dropped a reported $75 million in financing for Melania, a deal that included a cozy payday for the First Lady and allowed for potential follow-ups. Despite the country’s currently undiagnosed Trump fever, Melania only pulled in a meager $16.7 million at the box office, though it did go on to glare blue steel over Prime Video’s streaming charts upon its debut on March 9 of this year.
