Grammys: Validation for Slayer, Dixies; even more validation for Rubin

Grammy voters showed solidarity with the, um, defiance of the Dixie Chicks (it is still kind of surreal, right?) by handing the group five awards last night, including record of the year for "Not Ready To Make Nice" and album of the year for Taking The Long Way. They share both awards with producer Rick Rubin. Slayer nabbed its first Grammy (best metal performance category) for "Eyes Of The Insane," from its album Christ Illusion. See a full list of nominations and winners here. But because you might not have the patience to scroll deep into the double-digit categories, here's some random coolness: The Flaming Lips win best rock instrumental performance; Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere wins best alternative music album; OK Go win best short-form music video for that treadmills thing. Also, a reunited Police opened the show with a version of "Roxanne." Unfortunately, CBS hasn't posted a video of that performance, just clips from winners' music videos.
