Green Day's American Idiot may become a movie
Green Day’s American Idiot was already successfully transformed into a big-and-brassy Broadway musical your mom could love (or maybe that’s just my mom?), so logic dictates that it should be headed for a film adaptation as well. Universal is currently in talks with stage director Michael Mayer to helm, while Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black may handle the script. The studio previously had success adapting Mamma Mia! to the big screen, so you know it's down with the rock 'n' roll. When the project was first rumored earlier this year, Mayer said it was a "no-brainer" that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong would reprise his role as St. Jimmy, while it's also apparently a "no-brainer" that Tom Hanks will be involved, as he's also directed and produced various rock 'n' roll projects like That Thing You Do and Neil Young's Heart Of Gold. Oh, and Mamma Mia!. So good, that way they can put "From the producers of Mamma Mia!" on the poster as a sort of implicit thumbs-up.
