Happy holidays from The A.V. Club

Hey all, ‘tis the afternoon before the night before the night before the night before the night before the night before Christmas, and all through The A.V. Club house, not another Newswire feature is stirring, not even another goddamn Duck Dynasty update. Indeed, like so many this time of year, this column is about to slip into a period of intermittent activity, and maybe some sweatpants. And over the next two weeks, we’ll update as warranted with news that’s major enough to rouse us from our holiday stupor—but there hopefully won’t be a lot of it.

To ring in the season of laziness, here’s a couple of paragraphs that I made Josh Modell write, which I’m just going to copy and paste straight from his email while I have another drink:

The week of December 23, we'll have a ton of new features, including separate pieces about A Christmas Story and its bastard offspring A Christmas Story 2, some thoughts from Todd VanDerWerff on this year's TV, and our annual Year In Swag round-up—complete this year with a pair of videos. (And that's all just on Monday.) We'll also feature some brand new videos from METZ and The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, and some incredible, playable video games made just for us.

The week of December 30 will be slightly lighter, but no less engaging, with a Maynard James Keenan interview, another bonus Undercover video, and an "in memoriam" video that we're awfully proud of. In other words, keep visiting instead of hanging out with your relatives. We'll be back full-force on Monday, January 6.

Cool, thanks Josh. That was slightly lighter, but no less engaging than what I would have written myself.

Anyway, on a personal and exceedingly sentimental note, thanks to all of you who continue to make The A.V. Club—and selfishly, specifically, Newswire—a welcome place to spend the vast majority of my waking hours. Once again, we’ve been through a lot together this year: Manufactured celebrity scandals that we were complicit in creating. Endless news of remakes and reboots and sequels and spinoffs. Movies made out of shit that probably shouldn’t be a movie. The cold vacuum of Star Wars updates. Stories about TV shows where you literally couldn’t say anything without it being a spoiler, but you still had to do your job, so what are you supposed to do? Etc. etc. And through it all, no one complained too much when I just goofed off and wrote my fake screenplays, or spent way too much time making a dumb Photoshop. That was real cool of you.

I already expressed a lot of these same, soppy feelings on my Thanksgiving signoff, but I’ll reiterate them anyway: The community we have here is unusually special—and it’s always appreciated. It’s been a joy for me, along with everyone else here, to write for and hang with you in 2013. We look forward to doing it all over again next year. Enjoy your holiday.
