HBO lights up another season of High Maintenance
Stuff a pipe and cue up your pot puns: HBO has already given High Maintenance a second season, the network announced today. Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld’s adaptation of their web series—which follows a weed dealer played by Sinclair and known as The Guy—debuted September 16. “The response to the new episodes exceeded all of our expectations,” HBO president Casey Bloys said in a statement. “Ben and Katja are brilliant, unconventional storytellers and we’re excited to see what they dream up for us in our second season.”
The new episodes have gotten the thumbs up from critics as well. In its review, The A.V. Club wrote: “Sculpting characters where other shows might churn out caricatures, the show practices a behind-closed-doors compassion that extends even to its riff on the boogeywoman of late-’00s Brooklyn: The Hipster Grifter.” Some of those characters are returning figures from the non-cable days.
