Here’s a trailer for The Search, the new film from The Artist’s Michel Hazanavicius

Michel Hazanavicius’ last feature, 2011’s The Artist, was both a loving recreation of silent films and a study of the Hollywood era in which they were made. It won five Oscars that year, including best picture and best director, and though Hazanavicius contributed a segment to The Players in 2012, The Search is his first proper follow-up to The Artist. The director’s latest project is a remake of Fred Zinnemann’s 1948 film of the same name, but instead of telling the same story of a young Auschwitz survivor trekking across war-torn Europe to be reunited with his mother, Hazanavicius updates the story to the modern day, as a divided Chechnya offers the same kind of displacement for another mother-son pair. The Search is in competition for the Palme D’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (an award for which The Artist was also nominated), although no remake has ever won Cannes’ top prize.
